Display for the first “Beyond the Pour” Wine Label Show

To reveal what’s behind the art of wine label design, the San Francisco Museum of Craft & Design invited Patti Buttitta and five other prominent Bay Area designers to document their creative process. The exhibit highlighted the nuances of wine label design, an art that can look deceptively simple. “Wine label design is a specialized skill,” says Patti Buttitta. “To design an enticing, market-savvy label requires a knowledge of the industry. Often, unexpected elements also come into play. The wine label, as the key identifying image for a brand, is a critical and valuable sales tool.”

Patti displayed several commissions showing different types of approaches
to wine label art and package design.

FountainGrove Inn Concierge Desk

The front panel for the concierge desk at the FountainGrove Inn in Santa Rosa, CA, was designed using two 3-Form Varia Ecoresin panels with a printed silk fabric sandwiched between. Panel called for back-lit lighting specially installed during construction of the custom-build concierge desk. We worked closely with 3-Form manufacturing team to ensure that the final panel met our specifications.

Pediatric Dental Initiative Donor Wall

The Pediatric Dental Initiative of the North Coast (PDI) was formed in 2006 when a group of health providers, child advocates, social service programs, and public health programs from Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake counties joined forces to address unmet oral health needs for low income children. PDI runs two full surgery operatories, seeing roughly 10 children a day whose dental problems are so severe that they require surgery under general anesthesia. PDI initial capital campaign yielded many generous donations from the community, as well as donations from smaller contributors. Patti Buttitta was commissioned to create a Donor Wall in the entry of the Surgery Center within a very limited budget. Buttitta Design agreed to provide services at a discounted rate in order to design , produce and install the donor wall within budget.
